Hello Golf R world, today we’ll be adding our first dad accessory to the Golf R! alright so this isn’t going to be a car seat review there’s a lot of car seat models to choose from you’ll likely want to do your own research and find one that suits your needs and the needs of your family. if you’re curious about the two models I picked up though, I’ll go ahead and leave those in the comments and you can check those out. What we’re mostly trying to accomplish today is making sure that everything fits and getting to know the latching system inside the Golf R, and seeing if we have to adjust the seats to accommodate the fitment of those car seats in the back. So, in addition to picking up the car seats i also picked up these 2 car seat mats. As you know the inside of the Golf R is leather and that can lead to problems. these are the… i can show you here…the Royal oxford car seat mats that i picked up on amazon. They had some good reviews and they were rated as being really good for leather interiors so they have these kind of beads in the back but the reviews say that they didn’t really cause any markings inside the leather and so these are good idea i think to pickup just make sure that you don’t markup that interior any and keep it looking as nice as possible. Alright, so these are the two models that I picked up for the Golf R. the rear-facing car seat for the little one just has a standard two point lower latching system. Nothing really special there. It’s just going to go on those two harness points. in the back rear of the seat. the front-facing car seat is going to be a little bit different in that it is going to have this upper latching requirement that’s going to go over the back of the seat and then down and then it has the standard two lower anchor points as well. so let’s go take a look and see what they’re going to look like in the Golf R and we have all those necessary latching points. So, we’ll be taking a look in the back seat here. you’ll notice that the we have two child seat anchor points on both sides of the car and you just stick your finger inside here on these covers you and you just pull and now we have access to the latching bar there and you can do the same thing on this side and now we have those two lower anchor points to mount those car seats in. so very easily to fit two car seats back in here, one on the passenger side and one on the driver’s side and if you check out this guy from the vortex forums he actually managed to fit three although you have to be very careful to get a model that actually supports that. so you have the capability to put three back here. it is i think possible to anchor one in the middle by using this latch point here and then this latch point here so if you just had one kid that would be very easy to do but i think if you had two kids it’d be pretty challenging I think you get two latches so for example if you put one behind you on the driver side and then wanted to put another one in the middle I think those lashing points are a little bit tight squeeze I don’t think you’d be able to to get two in there although if you did like a buckle system on the middle one or something to that effect maybe you could get two back in there. what I’m gonna be doing today is putting one here on the driver side and one on the on the passenger side so let’s go ahead and look in the back and make sure that we have a rear anchor point and you can see here that the rear anchor point for that top tether is located right there so we’re just going to slide that right inside here and anchor down in there so, we should be in good shape to mount those up the car seat mats came with some pretty specific instructions about making sure you wipe down the interior seats before placing those mats on a permanent basis. So I’m going to go ahead and take just a damp cloth and go ahead and wipe the seat down make sure they’re nice and clean so that’s a no dirt or grime gets rubbed in by those car seat mats. alright, so these are the car seat mats again and they have the kind of nice red sporty stitching to them and I think they’re going to be a good fit. we’re going to take this and loop it around the back headrest here and kind of way that should keep our leather in the back of your seat looking nice! okay so there was nothing to install those I just wrapped them around the head rest right here and tighten them up and I think they turned out pretty good! seems like a pretty minor investment to keep the leather looking good and hopefully I don’t have any problems with these beads here but I read some reviews and they said nobody has had any problems with that on some nice leather interiors. Yeah, they look pretty sporty and nice! Seems like a pretty good investment to make sure that things stay looking good and got some pockets down here to store you know knickknacks or stuff for the kids ok so right off the bat the first thing I’m noticing is that this rear-facing car seat doesn’t have enough room right here to kind of sit with this passenger seat a little bit back so i’m gonna have to move the passenger seat up looks like quite a bit in order to get that car seat to rest properly. so i’ll go ahead and pull the lever and move that forward and it looks like it’s going to have a come up all the way to the second latch forward for that car seat to rest without rubbing back there… and actually based on what I’m seeing here it’s going to have to come all the way forward! so I’m gonna move that all the way and with it moved all the way now I can actually stick my fingers back here and it’s not rubbing anymore. so hopefully you guys can see this but the carseat mat has this gap right here and it’s going to make it really easy to slot these uh these latching systems right here should be able to get a good click right there and then do the same for the other side over here. Basically just going to push that down these things are never super easy to do you OK! gotta good click on that one and yep now that’s not rubbing against the seat anymore and looks pretty good and our ball is centered and now just needs to be tightened down. so there you go rear facing car seat installed but had to move the passenger seat all the way forward in order to make that happen. now, my wife is pretty short at 5’2″ and i already had her sitting here and she was a pretty comfortable but I think if you’re going to be over 5’4″ and you’re gonna be putting a rear-facing car seat in here I don’t think that’s gonna work out very well for you. if you just have one kid though you could probably put this in the middle seat and then you won’t have a problem because you would have the space in between the seats and it wouldn’t be an issue. but, if you’re gonna be putting one like I am this whatever seat you’re putting that behind is going to have to go forward. if I had put this behind the driver seat I’m 5’6″ which is a little on the shorter side but i would not be able to drive comfortably with a rear-facing car seat in this vehicle (behind driver) alright so now let’s get the other one going. this has a rear harness which we’re going to be sliding into this gap right here kind of pulling that out and latch right here like so and then just pull that tight in this moment and then the latching system again going to be down here give me a good latch on both sides for this front facing car seat and I got a good latch on that one as well. so, no real installation problems other than having to move that seat forward. you can see now how far that had to be forward in order to get this to not touch back here and this is a model that’s definitely on the slimmer side and that was one of the smaller models. so, maybe do some more research if this is going to be a big concern for you and see if you can find one little bit more compact. but to be honest this is about as compact as they get and so if you have a rear-facing child then the middle portion is definitely looking like the solution for you. well, now looking at it maybe not even that! because based on how wide this is you may even have some problems with that! so! something to think about if you have a rear-facing child seat luckily i am my wife is on the shorter side so not going to be as much of an issue for me. alright let’s go ahead and get this all all tightened down always the most fun part of installing the carseat systems ok everything is nice and snug now and all tight. nothing is moving anywhere and this is kind of your standard dad configuration with two car seats in the Golf R! Rear facing on the passenger seat with that seat all the way forward and front facing behind me. of course the stroller in the back can’t leave home without that! Is my sister in there?! No, she’s not. You want to hop up in there?! YEAH! I’m going to hop in my car seat! Alright, what do you think? GOOD! GOOD! I LOVE IT!! ok, you may encounter a situation where you maybe need to carry a couple passengers and you have the car seat still with you. let’s see if we can pull these out and get them to fit in the Golf R and still fit a couple passengers and that stroller. ok so as you can see here that if you do need to carry some passengers and you stow the car in the rear that both do fit. i had to play a little bit of a puzzle game here to make sure that they both went in there but i did eventually figure it out and got them both to fit. if you have this luggage system down here that kind of velcros to the bottom those are really nice to have because it keeps these really secure and they don’t you know move around and rattle and make noises while the car is driving. as you can see with both of those in the back you don’t really have a whole lot of room for anything else. you might be able to put something up here but you’re not going to go to the grocery store in this kind of configuration or fit anything a worthwhile back here in the seat with those two car seats stored there. so if you are stuck with the stroller at the time that obviously isn’t going to go back in the back there with those two car seats very easily I mean I tried to get them to fit for the stroller to up here but it just wasn’t wide enough so i wasn’t able to do that. if you have to carry two passengers back here you can stow this stroller right here and then you can have a passenger here and on the side and up there in the passenger seat I did notice that I’m kind of scuffing down here a little bit with the wheels so depending on how big your stroller is and how it’s setup that might be some concern to you but yeah if you needed to carry a couple of coworkers around for lunch the stroller and two car seats in the back works pretty good!
